Week 8: Half-Way to Being a Guru (or, For the Love of the PLN)

I am amazed that we are already half-way through the semester.  I can only imagine the sadness you must all feel knowing that you only have 8 week left of this class (cue sad music). Okay, maybe you aren't so sad, but I hope that you are least learning a few things that you can use in your life and your future classroom.
Speaking of learning, you are going to show your Prezi NETS-S Performance Indicator presentations to a small group of peers tonight!  Ensure that you have your Prezi and GoogleDoc assessment complete and either on a blog page or ready first thing.  If you were one of the many who missed last week, please talk to a peer to catch up on what it is you need for class tonight.
After the presentations, I want to check in with where you are on the TaskStream narratives.  If for some odd reason you haven't purchased your TaskStream subscription and self-enrolled in the CSUSM Local TPE, you need to do so by tomorrow, as Dr. Hayden will be putting everyone in our 422 container (how I will grade your portfolios).
Two Good TaskStream Collaborate Samples: One, Two
New Material:  I will go over the Emerging Technology Checklist.  This is a checklist for you to ensure that you are getting everything you create on your blogs, as well as give a brief description and a connection to a NETS-T standard (Remind me to introduce Box.net if I haven't already to make it easy to embed some of your work on the blog).  I will also go over the requirements for the PLN assignment (journal 7), and discuss the Excel assignment.  The Excel assignment is something you will complete by watching video tutorials, so make sure you understand what to submit it Cougar Courses (e.g. read the instructions please).

This Week's Question: If money were not an issue, where would you spend your Spring Break?  Paris, Sidney, Buenos Aires, Hawaii? What would you do?  Now, what are you actually going to do?

  1. I really dont know what i would do.... If money wasnt an issue and school wasn't in the way then, ok maybe i'd go somewhere. But if i had to i think i would go to England or Mexico to visit my grandmother for a week or i might even have to stay for two weeks. I would love to visit England with my honey and visit my cousin who is out there living right now with her family. I would love to see all of the main attractions and the churches. I would take tons of pictures and try to experience everything that England has to offer. My plans for spring break is finish all of my homework that i have for all 5 classes.... yup extra fun for me!

  2. If money were not an issue, I would spend my spring break in Australia and New Zealand. I have always wanted to visit the area, and it would be fun to get lost there. I want to go diving in the great barrier reef off the coast of Australia, and visit the amazing terrain in New Zealand. I want to go sailing all around the island of New Zealand, and go hiking in the Outback of Australia. As for what I actually am doing for spring break, a whole lot of nothing is on my horizon, because money is in fact an issue.

  3. If money were not an issue I would spend my spring break in Italy. I've never been out of the country and have always wanted to go there. I don't really have a specific reason as to why i'd want to go there, but I think it sounds like a fun place to go. Plus, I love Italian food. =] So it would be fun to try all the different foods, and explore different places. I don't have any plans for spring break yet besides relaxing and working.

  4. I appreciate the Say Anything reference. If money was endless, I would venture to Italy. Good food, great language, and I hear the Mediterranean is nice. However, my Spring Break might incorporate more local options. I live in Encinitas; I will spend time at the beach, drink coffee, and not spend to much time at work. I am looking forward to it...

  5. If money and fear (I am afraid of heights(airplanes)) were not an issue I would love to spend my Spring Break in Spain. I have heard great things about Spain and it would be a great place to broaden my Spanish vocabulary. Additionally, it is a country with a vibrant culture and history.
In reality, I will be spending my break at home, working to obtain money.

  6. If money and class assignments were not an issue, I would spend my spring break on a tropical island where I can relax and have some wonderful alcoholic beverages. :)
Maybe Hawaii, or the Bahamas, Fiji.. who knows lol. Since that is not the case and I have to work and work on school projects, I will be staying here in San Marcos. I work Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays, so I will be working on my VPA 321 puppet project on monday and wed. oh yay.

  7. If money wasn't an issue and traveling was an option for me, I would definitely think about headin down under to Australia or New Zealand. Just kickin it, enjoying life and relaxing. What am I going to be doing? I think i'll be back and forth between Anaheim and San Marcos, spending time with family, running, partying. I really need to get work done for some of my classes, and so I imagine wasting away a day or two on studying but that's about it!

  8. I would go back to Europe and do my entire trip over again. I went over winter break and saw every monument but didn't experience the culture part at all. I would go back and experience the food and people. I would love to go back if I have the time and money!! =]]] wooooooo

  9. I would travel for sure. I would love to either go to Spain as I have never been there or I would go back to Italy. Funny enough, my mom and I were just talking last night about Italy and where we would like to visit again. I would love to go back to Rome and see some of the historical sites I missed last time around, I would definitely go back to Venice, and I'd love to spend more time in Tuscany seeing the countryside and to Cinque Terre on the coast. Unfortunately, I am broke, so I will be doing none of those! I will probably just spend spring break relaxing at home or maybe go camping.

  10. If money was not an issue I would love to spend my spring break in Australia to visit my friend for the first time. Sadly money is an issue and I will be working and doing arts and crafts I find on Pinterest.

  11. If money were not an issue, I would want to go to Boston. I have heard it is really exciting and different and I would want to go site-seeing. Realistically, since money is an issue, I am going to catch up on sleep!

  12. I would go go Italy. My boyfriend is in Milan right now for a new job so I would love to visit him. Unfortunately, money IS an issue and so is the amount of work I have over break so I think I will be studying beachside or poolside in Encinitas.

  13. I would pay everyone around me not to play on mobile devices. I want to cut myself off and "kick it old school". Beach, sun, waves, brews, bikes, and grub. I am doing this. I will be taking a staycation in Carlsbad and implementing this policy.

  14. I would go back to Europe, or go on a missions trip in a foreign country. I absolutely LOVED my semester abroad last semester and wish I were back there right now. I too would love to donate my time helping someone else in another country. I've had opportunities, but nothing has worked thus far. Unfortunately, I work for the local school district, and they are not on spring break, so I will be spending my time working....

  15. If money isn't an issue, does that mean I can also take the week off from work as well? Because if I only have my two school days off, I would have to stay local. Maybe go to the beach, or Hollywood. People watching at The Grove is always something I've wanted to do. If I could take the whole week off, I would go probably to Wisconsin to visit some friends that moved. Or Washington DC; I've always wanted to visit. With only a week though, I wouldn't want to go anywhere with a massive time difference. It would take away too much time to first adjust to the time difference, and then readjust when I get home.

  16. Italy is the number one place I want to go before I die. Wine, cheese and chocolate for every meal is my time of living. Unfortunately, I'll be spending all my money in Vegas this weekend, so during the actual week I will likely be catching up on some reading (not required, but for pleasure) at the beach and pool which is fine by me! I need a mini vacation to relax and unwind.

  17. If money were no object I would DEFINITELY go back to Australia, and then fly all my Aussie friends to New Zealand to go bungee jumping. However, since I cannot do that I will most likely be spending my time doing classroom observations and writing assignments in the comfort of my home. I'll just have to wait until next year...

  18. I agree with Katherine I would go back to Australia.. BUT i wouldnt return, so bad idea.. I finish school in Spring and need to do that first. During my break I am going to go shooting with my dad, paint, and go to a ROD STEWART concert in Vegas with my parents.. CANT WAIT!!!

  19. If I could go anywhere for my spring break, I would take a trip to Italy. One of my sisters just got back from a business trip in Italy and so I've been hearing lots of great things about it lately. I would love to see all the architecture and history that is there. And I love wine!

  20. I would visit every country in Europe! Actually visit Italy, Germany, France, Paris, and Rome. Since money is not an issue I would bring all my friends/family/ boyfriend's family/friends. :p Actually I'll be working the entire time maybe go to the zoo, mostly sleep and try to get ahead in school.

  21. If I could go anywhere for my spring break I would honestly stay home and take the entire week off work. With working full time, being a full time student, doing observations, and always trying to catch up. I would love a week to catch up on school work, clean my house, take my dog to the park, catch up on sleep, and get the opportunity to stay up past 10pm without falling asleep on my couch. Unfortunately even though I am not in school I will be observing in classrooms and my work knew it was my break and I am scheduled on my school days....So much for a break :(

  22. If i could go anywhere, I'd either want to go to Israel or to Italy. I've been to Israel once before, and I have a good friend there I haven't seen in a long time who I'd love to spend time with. I have never been to Italy, and I've always wanted to go down the Venetian canals in a gondola. One day, perhaps for my honeymoon, I'll go to Italy :)

What I'll really be doing? Sitting at home and doing homework. That, and potentially road-tripping to Los Angeles to look at my grad school options so I can decide which school to accept admission from.

  23. Sydney, Australia, is not spelled with an "I".

  24. If I could go anywhere, it would be Europe...all over Europe, Italy, Germany, France, Britain, Spain. However, one week of spring break would never be enough time to spend spring break =[ I guess I can dream. What I am really doing over spring break is to work on my research papers for school, work, and hopefully some beach. I plan to sleep, eat, and wine taste too! =]

  25. I would go to Las Vegas because because the last time I was there, I had SO MUCH FUN and I felt renewed when I returned. It was a great experience!

  26. I would spend my break visiting my sweet nephew in Missouri. He was recently diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. My heart hurts because he is so far away.

Instead, I will be spending my break working and trying to catch up on school work.

  27. If I could go anywhere in the world, I would love to visit China. I recently watched a show on Travel Channel called The Layover with Anthony Bourdain and he visited Bejiing for 48 hours. During his trip, he visited a lot of food places and I love food!

For my actual Spring break, I will take a couple days off and have fun with my friends and family. And the last couple days, I will force myself to get a head start with some of my classes!

  28. If I could go anywhere in the world it would probably be Ireland. FOr some reason I've always wanted to go. Anywhere in Europe really would do. Spring break has passed and I realized I did not comment on this, but I worked as usual and then had a few days off and had a friend came to San Diego to visit from across the country.
