Week 14: Approaching the End of the Road?

I took this picture while driving - don't try this at home
Always remember, "Wherever you go. . .there you are!" (any Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai fans out there?)  I write to you all bleary eyed from a long extended working weekend of grading and regrading student work.  I'm haunted by this recurring nightmare where I drown in a shallow TaskStream.  I try and try, but I can't break free my entanglement in the NETS. Anyone have an idea as to why?  Uh, is anyone else having the same nightmare ;-)

Everything due, except the mind map, should be graded.  Tonight, I want to talk briefly about the format of the cybersafety websites.  Previously, we discussed the importance of design in terms of creating content for the web.  Keep in mind that you are creating a collaborative website, not six individual sites.  The format doesn't have to match, but it should have some continuity and an eye for aesthetics. Overall, the sites are good, but we can make them better! The only assignment that I didn't re-visit was the PLN.  Please check your grades and look for my feedback on any assignments that require your attention.
Tonight you should be working on your iMovie PSAs. . .don't forget to bring those headphones!  If you read this before coming to campus, it would be great if you could print the iMovie checklist to bring to class as well.  I will cover how to export your masterpiece and get the movie on your blog!  We will begin the document that will become your TaskStream narratives on Google Docs.  I have posted the Google Tools assignment in CougarCourses, but all you have to do is to complete the very short survey of you use of Google tools and submit.  I just want to give you credit for your hard work with all the tools you have used! We'll discuss the artifacts you will be using for your final four NETS-T standards.  If we have any time, I want to revisit Symbaloo and discuss how you will use it to create a webmix portfolio of your technological proficiency for the NETS and beyond. . . Any spare time you might have can be spent ensuing all of your work makes it to your blog either by embedding directly, uploading to Box.net, or simply uploading a .jpg of an artifact!
There is good new!  After tonight, there will be no more new assignments. . .only a the completion of your TaskStream narratives and a short response to your attendance and participation.  Come to class early if you need help. . . .
Someone tweeted an article that really relates to last week's question. . .take a look (it's short!)

This Week's Question: What has been your favorite assignment in this class and why?

  1. I hope the video assignment will be. I do like shooting music videos and photographs. Now I can integrate them into a cohesive format. Oh yeah, I can show my students also.

  2. I really enjoyed the crossword puzzle, because I think that is a fun way to engage students. It also did not take that long to make and it showed me how much excel can do. When I have my own class I will use this as a homework assignment but it will be a print out therefore, I will save time by not having to deal with the color changing letters liked we had to do.

  3. I liked the Prezi and used in a couple times in other classes. I think it is a neat way to do presentation and so much better than power point. I was actually looking forward to learn it when we first started the class. Prezi will be a neat way to further present information in classes.

  4. So far my favorite assignment has been the prezi assignment. I think prezi is so much more interesting then power point and I can see myself using it often in other classes as well as later in life. I even showed it to my sister who is in high school as well as my dad who often uses power point to give meetings for his work.

  5. My favorite assignment has probably been the mind maps. As a terribly visual learner, I really enjoyed taking some information and creating a way to represent it visually. It was easier than I imagined, and with exception of my computer acting up occasionally because it was running slow, I enjoyed the whole mind mapping process.

  6. My favorite assignment of this semester has been using iMovie. I had never done a movie. I find it so interesting and fun constructing a movie by putting frames together to make a piece of film that can be viewed and enjoyed by many people. I can definitely use iMovie in the classroom to make a subject come to life.

  7. I really enjoyed the twitter chat. I came in, honestly bitter to twitter, but now, because I see it as a resource rather than another networking site, I absolutely love chatting with other educators, following other educators, and posting/reading links that either I or they post.

  8. So far I'm really glad I learned how to Diigo. It's helping out a ton in my other classes with regards to research. Prezi was also pretty interesting and I'm confident enough that I understand how to use it and hopefully I'll decide to choose it as opposed to power point when I'm teaching. Final answer however is Diigo.

  9. Hmmm...It's tough to pick an absolute favorite! I really enjoyed learning about prezi; in fact I've already used it for a couple of presentations in other classes. It's super fast and easy and I'll never go back to PowerPoint! I also had a lot of fun creating the website on weebly, but then I'm a design nut anyways so of course I liked laying out the images and picking fonts. But beyond that, it will be a great artifact to add to my portfolio. How impressive is it to say I created an educational website for students, parents, and teachers? And I am also really enjoying playing with the iMovie.

  10. I really enjoyed creating the assessments, and feel like that will be a tool that I will use in my future as an educator. Also although we just started this assignment I feel like the video will be very fun and I am excited to start!

  12. My favorite assignment was taking part of the Twitter chat. I liked this because it was unique to me, the NTChat was a great resource. I am going to be a new teacher, so it was cool to see how these teachers were willing to help out. The Prezi presentation was a close second.

  13. I enjoyed many of the assignments, however if I had to choose just one, I would choose the journals. I felt that the many articles we were assigned were very insightful. In addition, I liked the opportunity that we had to reflect in our blogs. It offered room for more precise examination of the articles, as well as room for further discussion with fellow peers.

  14. My favorite assignment we used in class was Prezi. Presentations can be really boring sometimes, but I think Prezi is a great way to change boring to engaging. Next week I have to do a 10 minute oral report with some kind of visual aid, I definitely will be using Prezi.

  15. My favorite assignment in this class was the Prezi assignment. I thought it was really interesting and love that it is different than any other presentation tool I have used thus far. I think it can be very visually captive and keep the audience interested, and I will definitely be using it in the future.

  18. I really enjoyed doing the news letter in which I was able to show my creative side. I also like the Prezi in which has given me the ability to present creatively a presentation that I may have in the future.

  19. The assignment I enjoyed the most was the cyber safety website. It was interesting to do research on a subject and see what the rest of the group had to say. Also the program was user-friendly and fun to mess around with when designing each page.

  20. My favorite assignment was the process of creating my PLN using digital tools. Before taking to this class, I've never used Diigo, Twitter, or even heard on "PLNs". Now, I have the basics skills in building my PLN and tools for creating a library of resources.Yes, it was alot of work, but I feel it is useful now as a student and wil be as a future educator.

  22. My favorite assignment has been diigo. I have been trying to find ways to keep track of pages, articles, and other info I find on the internet and now I have a way! It has greatly simplified my life.

  23. My favorite assignment was the iMovie assignment because the software was really user-friendly and it was fun to play around with the different tools and effects. It was cool to learn how to edit each detail of our PSA video; the transition, music, screenshots, etc. Another reason I loved this assignment is because I learned to use yet another program on my MacBook Pro computer, and I know that I will use this program in the future.

  24. My favorite was the 100 things I like journal article and the Prezi presentation. Both were very fun to make and I think reflect a lot about who I am and my creative abilities.

  25. I THINK that I have finished the iMovie assignment and I definitely liked this assignment the best. I'm actually meeting with a classmate tonight to work on our presentation, for which I suggested we use iMovie! Hopefully all goes well. It is not half as frustrating as some of the other assignments we have had, and it is definitely a tool I will use again in the future. I just wonder if it would be more difficult if we were not provided with music, pictures, and film.. hmmmm

  26. My favorite assignment in this class has been the IMovie, because it relates closely to my Film 100 class. We are making a 5 minute movie in that class and I have really become interested in film editing. Also, last semester I did a puppet play for third graders in my VPA 324 class (with a group). Having written the scripts for both projects, making the IMovie has been an unexpected extension of my passion for film.

  29. My favorite assignment, by far, was creating and uniquely modifying our blogs. Personalizing our blogs from top to bottom was so much fun for me, because I had never made a blog before or worked with HTML, so it gave me knew experiences and knew knowledge. A lot of the assignments we do in this class I have some experience with, so this being a brand-new experience it was quite fun!
